A cruise travel club is a paid membership that promises access to travel or cruise offers. Some are simple discount programs with a modest fee; others are sold like timeshares, with free-vacation invitations, long presentations and large upfront payments. We do not endorse any paid club. Here is how to judge one for yourself.
| Ask | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| What exactly does the membership fee buy? | A list of perks you can name, not “exclusive savings.” |
| Are there yearly fees, and can they rise? | The FTC notes that vacation club fees often increase and are owed even if you never travel. |
| How long am I committed, and how do I leave? | Some memberships are hard to cancel or resell. |
| Can I see the price for a real sailing? | Compare it with an ordinary quote for the same ship, date and cabin. |
| Who actually books the cruise? | You want a booking number from the cruise line itself. |
Warning Signs From the FTC
The Federal Trade Commission’s guide to vacation clubs and its FTC travel-scam advice describe patterns worth knowing:
- A “free” trip or dinner that requires you to sit through a sales presentation.
- Pressure to sign today, long waits and rotating salespeople.
- Promises that are spoken but not written into the contract.
- Vague point systems, exchange fees or “pay per stay” charges on top of the membership.
- Requests to pay by wire transfer, gift card or cryptocurrency.
- Offers to buy back or resell your membership if you first pay a fee.

The FTC’s advice is simple: get every promise in writing, take the paperwork home, review it with someone you trust, and report deceptive offers at ReportFraud.ftc.gov.

Cruise Travel Club FAQ
Are cruise travel clubs worth it?
It depends entirely on the terms: what you pay, what you get, how long you are committed and whether you can leave. Compare the club’s price for a specific sailing against a normal quote for the same cabin before you join.
Can a travel club get prices the cruise lines do not offer?
Cruise lines control their fares tightly. Be sceptical of any club promising huge savings on every cruise; ask for a real example on a specific sailing and compare it.
What do I do if I already joined and want out?
Read the contract for the cancellation steps and any cooling-off period, send notice in a way that proves delivery, and contact your card issuer if you were charged after cancelling. Report deceptive practices at ReportFraud.ftc.gov.
